About Sovereignty

Aerial View of a Mountain River

"From dawn’s first light, to twilight’s embrace,

Sovereignty proudly stands, an unwavering grace.

Guardian of rights, in the hearts of braves it resides,

A beacon of selfhood, where history abides."

At its essence, sovereignty intrinsically emphasizes self-governance and individual empowerment. It is borne from the knowledge that individuals have the right to make choices about their own lives, express their identity, and participate in shaping their cultural and political structures. It stands as a contradiction and in direct opposition to a culture of dependency.

Sovereignty is not passive, it is active, filled with purpose and determination. It does not sit idle, it is constantly moving, creating, nurturing and birthing. It is independent and self-determined.

“A thousand-mile journey begins where you are standing.”

There are 574 federally recognized Indian tribes and Alaska Native entities in the country. This dispersion of peoples, cultures and nations has been a factor impeding the widespread adoption of modern systems and technologies for land management throughout Indian Country.  It has also been a primary force driving Tribal Nations to having to endure the limited benefit they get from federal appraisal systems.

Modern Data Sciences and tools are enormously more efficient, and significantly more cost-effective, than obsolete ‘traditional appraisal’ methods. They can provide instantaneous estimates of value to landowners upon request, and volumes of insightful analytics and other vital operational information to Native Land Stewards.

Furthermore, Tribal Nations already have the legal authority, under Public Law 93-638, the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act, to undertake the management of their own appraisal programs, while paying for these programs through the use of the federal funds the government would have spent towards their effort.

The Act expressly “...recognizes the obligation of the United States to respond to the strong expression of the Indian people for self-determination by assuring maximum Indian participation in the direction of... Federal services to Indian communities...”.  It further “...declares its commitment to... permit an orderly transition from the Federal domination of programs to... effective and meaningful participation by the Indians in the planning, conduct and administration of those programs and services.

Sovereign HomeLand Valuations (sovlands.com) represents our humble and considerate attempt to engage Tribal Nations in a partnership, towards building state-of-the-art Land Information Teams throughout Indian Country. These teams will be owned and staffed by Native Americans and are meant to become a long overdue, robust competitor to the federal appraisal monopoly.

We respectfully submit to our partners:

the thousand-mile journey ought to begin now.
